Stocks of interest at the close of trade on the ASX on Thursday, October 25:

BHP - BHP BILLITON - down $1.27, or 3.96 per cent, to $30.80

RIO - RIO TINTO - down $3.48, or 4.52 per cent, to $73.52.

FMG - FORTESCUE METALS - down 22 cents, or 5.7 per cent, to $3.64

The resources have continued a poor run due to weaker commodity prices and lower investor confidence.

JBH - JB HI-FI - down 69 cents, or 2.93 per cent, to $22.88

Tech and electronics retailer JB Hi-Fi has narrowly avoided a first strike form shareholders despite appearing to buck a discretionary spending downturn, though its 2016 acquisition of The Good Guys continues to weigh.

RRL - REGIS RESOURCES - up 11 cents, or 2.51 per cent, to $4.50

SBM - ST BARBARA - up eight cents, or 1.9 per cent, to $4.29

Safe-haven gold provided a rare speck of green for some gold stocks on an otherwise dismal day for the Australian share market.

AMP - AMP LIMITED - down 81 cents, or 24.47 per cent, to $2.50

Shares in troubled wealth manager AMP were in free fall after announcing it will sell its Australian and New Zealand wealth protection and mature businesses to London-based insurance firm Resolution Life for $3.3 billion.
