A wind farm on Tasmania's west coast that will be able to power more than 46,000 homes has been given the green light.

The Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) announced on Thursday it would chip in $59 million required to get the 112 megawatt $280 million wind farm off the ground.

"We're excited to be involved in a project that will further diversify Tasmania's clean energy to include more wind, while helping Tasmania achieve its target of 100 per cent renewable energy by 2022," CEFC chief Ian Learmonth said of the project, expected to be completed in late 2019.
