ANZ had been rightly held to account in the banking royal commission over its "unconscionable" treatment of a farming family, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says.

The prime minister was answering a Labor question in parliament on Thursday about Queensland farmers, Elizabeth and Roderick Handley, who were overcharged interest - denying them access to money - just as the family was dealing with Mrs Handley's cancer.

"The testimony that was given in the royal commission revealed unconscionable conduct," Mr Turnbull said.

"And the ANZ Bank has been rightly held to account."

He said the government was determined to ensure that the wrong that has been done will not be repeated and that those in the financial services sector who have done the wrong thing will be held to account.
