The number of jobs advertised in Australia rose by a solid 1.5 per cent in May, ending three months of flat or declining vacancy ads, new figures show.

ANZ's latest job ads survey shows 179,245 jobs, in seasonally adjusted terms, were advertised in May, up 1.5 per cent for the month and 11.5 per cent for the past 12 months.

Head of Australian economics at ANZ, David Plank, said the May result took the current rising trend in job ads to a new high and other indicators such as business conditions and profitability, pointed to an expected continuation of improvement in the labour market.
