Darling Downs farmers are appealing against a decision by Queensland's Supreme Court to overturn a court recommendation scrapping the expansion of the New Acland coal mine.

The Supreme Court ruled earlier this month to overturn a decision that the $900 million Stage 3 expansion be rejected.

The Land Court last year recommended Mines Minister Anthony Lynham reject the expansion but the matter has since been sent back for further consultation.

On Wednesday the Oakey Coal Action Alliance filed to the Court of Appeal its objection to the Supreme Court's decision.

The group argues the ruling that groundwater impacts can't be considered in mining objection hearings opens a Pandora's box for future objections, not just the New Acland project.

The alliance now has 28 days to file arguments and materials before a hearing date is listed in the Court of Appeal.
